Silver Oak Breaks Ground on New Oakville Winery

Monday, March 5, 2007
Location: Oakville

We are beginning an exciting chapter in our history as we break ground on a new winery and hospitality center at our Oakville estate. "This is a tremendous opportunity to incorporate our 35 years of experience making Cabernet Sauvignon in the Napa Valley into a winery that's uniquely suited to Silver Oak's needs," notes General Manager David Duncan. "We're eager to welcome both long-time fans and new customers to this wonderful facility."

The impetus for the new winery was a fire in early 2006 that destroyed Bonny's Chai, the historic building used for barrel storage and special events. Faced with the decision to rebuild or start fresh, the Duncan family seized the chance to create a facility that honors Silver Oak's past while incorporating advances in winemaking.

"The new facility is idealized to our purpose," remarks David Duncan. "We will have tanks for specific vineyard blocks, room for working barrels, and precise temperature and humidity controls in our barrel storage rooms. We're also building in the flexibility we need to continue to innovate in the future."

The winery will pay tribute to Napa Valley's agricultural heritage with a handsome traditional design. Four oak trees will frame a central courtyard with a fountain, reflecting pool and sweeping views of the surrounding hills. The iconic water tower that appears on Silver Oak's label will remain as a visible reminder of our rich history. Other highlights of the design include an enhanced hospitality center, tasting room and library with a custom wine cellar showcasing all of Silver Oak's vintages – from 1972 to today.

Wine tasting is taking place in our temporary tasting room, Monday through Saturday from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. We encourage you to visit us during this exciting time to witness our progress!
