How to Open a Wine Bottle Without a Corkscrew
We’ve all been there: Thirsty for wine without a wine opener. While we always recommend that you open a bottle of wine with a corkscrew or ah-so (safety first!), there are a few other, resourceful ways to tackle the problem head-on.
The main goal is to delicately extract the cork without cracking your bottle or crumbling the cork. This is what makes a corkscrew and ah-so so reliable. When you don’t have these tools around, it’s time to get creative.
The below video (with over one million views!) shares three ways to open a bottle using everyday household items, including a shoe. (This method allows the gases in the wine to slowly push the cork out of the bottle.)
Watch Sally Allred, our director of special events, demonstrate how.
