How Tuition Assistance Fueled My Professional Journey

From day one, education has been a driving force in my life. As a kid, I dreamed of pursuing a postgraduate degree, and that dream only grew as I navigated through my undergraduate years. But like many, I knew I needed real-world experience first.
The pivotal moment came during a casual conversation with colleagues about continuing education. Little did I know, my desire to attend the University of Denver struck a chord with David R. Duncan, Silver Oak proprietor and my manager, who had pursued his postgraduate studies there. It was serendipity in action.
Fast forward to 2016, armed with support and encouragement, I decided to pursue my Master’s in Communication Management at DU. Thanks to the Silver Oak Tuition Reimbursement Benefit—offered to eligible, full-time employees who seek to continue their education—I was able to turn my dream into reality without shouldering a daunting financial burden.
Balancing a full-time job with school wasn’t easy. But with the unwavering support of David, who kindly provided flexibility and guidance every step of the way, I dove headfirst into my studies. From mastering communication skills to honing my leadership abilities, every lesson learned enriched my career at Silver Oak.
Throughout the two-year program, I juggled deadlines, coursework and professional responsibilities. Yet, in those moments of challenge, I found strength knowing that I was supported by a company that believed in investing in its employees’ growth and development.
Today, as I reflect on my journey, I’m grateful for Silver Oak and the Duncan family’s commitment to education. Their belief in me not only helped me achieve my academic goals, but also empowered me to excel in my role. The path to success may be paved with challenges, but with the right support and a sprinkle of serendipity, anything is possible.
