The Silverado Pickups Cover “Timeless”

By David R. Duncan

When I penned “Timeless” for my father, Raymond Twomey Duncan, in 2015, it was a birthday gift for the man who had everything—but he ended up not hearing the final piece. Now, those lyrics serve as a dedication on each vintage of the eponymous wine, Timeless Napa Valley, and I think of Dad every time we open a bottle on Father’s Day or hear a recording of the song.

Music has always been a hobby of mine. Jazz is something that Dad introduced to me early on. It’s no wonder that I found music to be an outlet—a way to express myself and to have fun.

In 2010, several friends and I started a band, The Silverado Pickups, over a six-pack of wine, a couple guitars and a handful of songs. In the years since, we’ve enjoyed playing everything from intimate events to BottleRock Napa Valley but set out to work on a debut album in 2022. Recorded at Blackbird Studio in Nashville, “Bacon, Butter and Salt” is a labor of love—in part because it features a new cover of “Timeless.”
