A Golden Moment

Rare are those moments when both time and opportunity align to blend unique, highly limited Silver Oak wines. In our 50 years, we’ve only released three small production, winery-direct bottlings: Silver Oak SIX (2009 Alexander Valley, 2012 Napa Valley and 2014 Alexander Valley).

Each of these unique wines hail from top estate vineyards, picked during celebrated California vintages and represents a chance for our winemaking team to spread their wings while staying true to the classic Silver Oak style.

In 2018, we set aside a mere eight barrels of Alexander Valley Cabernet Sauvignon to become our 50th Anniversary Celebration Selection. As the second vintage crushed at our state-of-the-art Alexander Valley winery, advances in mechanical harvesting, fruit sorting and tank selection not only show a marked impact on wine quality, but also conserve precious resources.

With this bottling, our wine team opted to make only 1.5L magnums, owing to their capacity for longer aging—and throwing an amazing party.

Fun fact: While twice the volume, magnums expose wine to the same amount of oxygen as a standard bottle; therefore, wine evolves twice as slowly in larger bottles and will last longer and show even more complexity than a standard bottle.

In hopes we’re all around to open one of the 50th Anniversary Celebration Selection magnums to celebrate a Silver Oak centennial, the winemaking team chose to cover the cork with a wax seal instead of a traditional tin capsule to slow down the rate oxygen transfers from your cellar to the wine.

Our 50th Anniversary Celebration Selection magnums will be released August 6 at 9am PT, with a small allocation available in-person at the Silver Oak 50th Anniversary Release Day event in Oakville. Limit one per customer.
